Charity Outreach: Schools on the Moon

What is Schools on the Moon?  In the remote border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan, a place that is considered too dangerous for the international community, we are setting up co-ed schools! We work with the village elders to ensure that the communities are accepting and Afghan girls and boys walk for miles to attend class. We need your help so that we can continue to give these communities tents, carpets chalkboards, pens, notebooks and in some cases even a well.

How did we hear about SOTM?  Our close friends, Rachel and Juan, have been traveling to Afghanistan for years doing philanthropic work and app development for midwives.  We mentioned that we’d like to be involved in their philanthropy though we do not want to personally go to Afghanistan.  That’s when they mentioned an opportunity to donate to Schools on the Moon, a way to give shelter to those who want an education in the rural areas of Afghanistan.  Our initial donation is 50 t-shirts with a simple design.  We hope these shirts will raise $1000 for SOTM at an upcoming fundraiser in Virginia.

What is the design supposed to be?  When I was in the first grade, my teacher pulled out a projector and hand-traced each student’s silhouette as a precious memory of our youth and that we were unique and one of a kind.  This silhouette in the design is meant to represent the same sentiment, that each of these children are important, they are a blessing, and that we care about them.

Where can you get more information about SOTM?  The activists in charge are in the process of putting together a more comprehensive website.  For now, visit here for more photos and information.  If you would like to donate or if you are interested in participating in fundraising, email us at Funshape Studios and we will put you in touch with someone who can help.
